Black Bat Plant - Tacca Chantrieri


The Bat plant flower also known as cat whiskers is an unusual herb belonging to the yam family. There are about 15 species of this plant with this particular one being native to Malaysia where it grows in the damp understory of the tropical jungle.



LIGHT- Bright indirect light is preferred for this plant as it grows on the jungle floor in the shadows. Direct sun can cause leaf burn so it's best to have it back from the window a little bit during our hot summers.


WATER- The bat plant loves humidity & would be the perfect addition to a bathroom with a small window. You want to keep it evenly moist but not waterlogged watering every 1-2 weeks. If it looks droopy it's a sign it needs more water.



PRUNING - Pruning this plant is mainly to remove dead or damaged leaves which can be done at any time. To propagate this plant you can divide the plant when repotting make sure to use a sharp clean knife or clippers when splitting your plant.


TOXICITY - This plant can be toxic if ingested & may cause some skin irritation. Best to keep out of reach of our furry friends
